Field Emission X-ray Tube
Since the times of Thomas Edison, we have been using electric lightening, which makes lights by electricity heating the thin metal called filament. The light bulbs using filaments have high
electricity consumption, so now a days, LED are becoming popular. By the way, when you get a medical check-up,
you might have a chance to get the x-ray photos taken. For doing this, invisible light called an
x-ray is needed and X-ray tube emits this light. Up to now, no alternative product of x-ray
tube was invented. Does that mean there
is no possibility of improvement or innovation?
No, because X-ray tube is still using the filament and has high
electricity consumption, which is a weak point.
Onizuka invented the world first Field Emission X-ray Tube using the
nanotechnology, which does not use the filament and has very low electricity
consumption. This can be used for
portable x-ray inspection system.
